8 Places Golf Carts are Used for Work

When you first think of golf carts, your mind may immediately envision a vehicle traveling across lush green fairways. However, these off-road vehicles are for more than just driving around the links. In fact, golf carts are one of the most popular types of work ATVs.

Golf carts are essential for a number of businesses because they are easy to operate, fuel efficient, and boast excellent mobility on different types of terrain. ATV Trader has put together a list of eight places golf carts are used for work.

1. Residential and Commercial Properties

Landscapers who work on residential or commercial properties know how helpful golf carts are. These job sites can range in size, requiring you to move both people and materials around the area. Haul soil from one garden to another or transport workers across a multi-acre property with ease thanks to your golf cart.

2. Farms

Farmers can utilize golf carts similarly to residential and commercial landscapers, except they are likely working on their own properties. Golf carts can help farmers and ranch hands manage lighter tasks, such as tending to gardens, nurseries and pastures. For more challenging tasks, consider using a different off-road vehicle that can be equipped with handy attachments. We previously wrote about six uses for ATVs or UTVs on the farm or ranch.

3. Living Communities

Maintenance workers at multi-building living communities use golf carts to get around the property and make repairs. Golf carts with a utility bed are especially helpful to transport tools and supplies. Maintenance workers are able to easily maneuver on the roads and sidewalks, on concrete and grass, to access the resident’s house, apartment, or condo.

Golf carts are also helpful to employees in the leasing office who are showing rental properties and vacation homes. Instead of a utility bed, they will have extra seats on their golf cart to accommodate more passengers who are looking at a specific residence.

4. College Campuses

College and university campuses can sprawl multiple buildings and thousands of acres. Employees, including security guards, maintenance workers and landscapers, are able to quickly move around these large campuses in golf carts and complete tasks within lecture halls, dorms, and more.

It’s not uncommon to see larger golf carts, with the capacity to transport more than four people, shuttling students and staff around campus. Some colleges and universities use golf carts as an optional mode of transportation for students walking home from class or the library after dark. Golf carts can also be helpful transporting visitors on prospective-student tours, as well as assisting students and faculty with mobility restrictions.

5. Stadiums and Performance Venues

Large stadiums and sports complexes have thousands of visitors during events like competitions or concerts. With that many people in one place, golf carts become a preferred means of efficient transportation.

Employees can use golf carts to transport athletes, fans, and VIPs around the stadium. They can also be used to carry players off a field or court if an injury limits an athlete’s ability to walk off on their own.

If a venue is booked for a large concert, golf carts with utility beds are able to deliver props, lighting and sound equipment, and more throughout the facility. When it’s time for the show to start, security can use a golf cart to drive the performers from their dressing room directly to the stage.

6. Amusement Parks

All types of workers, from maintenance to guest relations, utilize golf carts at theme and amusement parks. These bustling attractions see crowds of visitors from the moment they open to when they close at the end of the day. When equipped with a PA system, golf carts can turn an ordinary drive around the park into an entertaining and informative tour. Golf carts help keep day-to-day operations moving smoothly, and allow personnel to get around the park quickly in case of an emergency.

In June 2021, employees at EPCOT at Walt Disney World used golf carts to transport guests from the park entrance to the parking lot when the trams were out of service. EPCOT spans 300 acres, so after a day exploring the park, employees wanted to give guests some relief.

7. Airports

Getting around a crowded airport by foot can be a challenge, which is why you’ll see golf carts zipping around terminals. Golf carts can transport passengers who need assistance to their gate or baggage claim.

Speaking of baggage, golf carts can also tow enclosed carts to deliver heavy luggage to the tarmac where it is loaded onto the plane.

8. Military Bases

While heavy-duty ATVs and UTVs are typically the off-roaders of choice for military personnel, golf carts serve a purpose for on-base duties. Multi-seat golf carts transport soldiers across large military bases that may have unpaved roads. Read our previous article on the five ways ATVs and UTVs are used in the military to learn more.

In 2015, the military began testing a series of self-driving golf carts for the U.S. Army. These autonomous robotic vehicles were designed to carry out tasks without needing a dedicated operator, allowing soldiers to stay out of harm’s way and focus on other duties.

As you can see, golf carts are a versatile off-road vehicle used on a variety of worksites. While golf carts aren’t as high speed as larger utility vehicles, they are able to quickly get in and out of spaces other vehicles might not have access to. If you have a business that requires you to move around a large site, consider buying a golf cart to get jobs done more efficiently than by foot.
