7 Tips for Using an ATV/UTV Sprayer
ATV and UTV sprayers are valuable accessories that can make property maintenance significantly easier. Whether you’re controlling weeds along a fence, applying fertilizer to food plots or spraying insecticides around a pasture, a sprayer allows you to cover large areas quickly and efficiently.

1. Start With the Right Sprayer

2. Read the Label Before Mixing
It may seem obvious, but one of the most important steps happens before the sprayer even leaves the garage. Every herbicide, insecticide, fertilizer or fungicide comes with specific instructions regarding mixing ratios, and application rates, as well as handling and safety precautions.
Using too much product can damage desirable plants, while using too little may produce disappointing results. Product labels also provide guidance on weather conditions, protective equipment, and the amount of area a particular mixture is intended to cover.

Operators using boom sprayers should pay attention to boom height and slightly overlap each pass to avoid missing narrow strips of ground. For spot spraying, a handheld wand provides excellent control and allows users to target individual weeds or problem areas without affecting surrounding vegetation.
6. Remember That a Full Tank Changes Handling
One thing that surprises many first-time users is how much a full tank affects the way an ATV or UTV handles. Water and chemical solutions add considerable weight, changing the machine’s balance and increasing stopping distances.
Driving more cautiously, slowing down for turns, and avoiding steep side slopes can help prevent accidents. Making sure the tank is securely mounted is equally important. A shifting load can affect stability and create dangerous situations, especially on uneven terrain.
7. Clean the Sprayer After Every Use
Cleaning may not be the most enjoyable part of the job, but it’s one of the most important. Leaving chemical residue inside the tank, pump or hoses can clog components and contaminate future applications.
Follow the product label’s cleaning instructions, and dispose of rinse water and chemical residue properly. Avoid allowing leftover chemicals to enter drains, waterways or areas where they could harm people, animals or desirable vegetation.
