If you’re not already familiar with Denago Powersports, you likely will be soon. The company has been making a name for itself by offering a slew of well-equipped off-road vehicles across a variety of segments, at a price point that won’t break the bank.

Since launching a comprehensive lineup of dirt bikes and ATVs following its stateside debut in 2023, Denago (pronounced “Den-Ah-Go”) has recently applied its “More Features for Less Money” concept to the UTV segment with the introduction of the 2026 RanchHawk 650FI 4×4.

We recently attended the press launch for the new model, putting the machine through its paces on the Pinnacles OHV trail network near Lake Arrowhead, California.

Powertrain

Propulsion comes from a liquid-cooled, rubber-mounted, fuel-injected 623 cc single-cylinder engine with a claimed 39 hp and 43 lb-ft of torque. It is mated to an automatic CVT (continuously variable transmission) with high- and low-range capability through a shaft-drive system. The driver is able to shift between high and low ranges via a gated shifter and switch between two- and four-wheel drive on the fly with the push of a dash-mounted button. The same goes for locking and unlocking the differentials.

Driving Impressions

Offering the most power in its class, the RanchHawk easily navigated challenging trails and steep, rocky inclines. With low range and four-wheel drive engaged, the RanchHawk was as surefooted as a mountain goat. Utilizing lower gearing for maximized utility and towing rather than speed, the machine topped out at 39 mph on the limited paved portion of the journey.

Robust, predictable throttle response and strong engine braking allowed for much of the driving to be done using only one pedal. Braking is handled by four-wheel hydraulic discs, measuring 10.2 inches up front and 9.4 inches out back. The brakes are effective, but the pedal is stiff, with minimal travel and feel.

The RanchHawk’s suspension system is among the machine’s most compelling elements. Dual A-arm suspension front and rear is complemented by fully-adjustable remote-reservoir shocks that allow for 13 inches of travel. Even set to the default settings, the system soaked up the biggest bumps we could throw at it. The electric power steering has ever-so-slight play at center but is precise and predictable, with excellent feel. It allowed us to navigate tight terrain and slow-speed obstacles with minimal effort, as well as enthusiastically carve dusty trails at higher speeds with confidence.

Standard Features

This is where the RanchHawk really shines. In addition to fully-independent suspension, switchable four-wheel drive, locking differentials, four-wheel disc brakes, and electric power steering, the RanchHawk is also equipped with a 6-inch TFT instrument panel with speedometer, tachometer, gear position, and fuel-gauge indicator, as well as a 10.25-inch infotainment screen that is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It features a backup camera and wireless Bluetooth. It can also be equipped with GPS navigation and allows for YouTube streaming.

It features tilt steering, an adjustable windshield, a tilting cargo bed, a front brush bar, a trailer hitch with wiring, LED lighting with high and low beams, turn signals, an LED light bar, and a 3,500-lb winch with synthetic rope. It is available in six colorways: (red, blue, black, tan, silver, and camo).

Capability and Capacity

The RanchHawk is currently available only as a single variant, but there was talk of future models being added to the lineup. It has a load capacity of 700 lb, a cargo capacity of 350 lb, and a tow limit of 1,550 lb. It weighs 1,587 lb and has a fuel capacity of 8 gallons.

The standard 3,500-lb synthetic-rope winch is especially notable at this price, as it normally comes as an optional accessory in this segment. The 13 inches of ground clearance allowed us to cross deeply rutted access roads and rocky trails with ease.

Technology

The RanchHawk’s 10.25-inch center touchscreen includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Bluetooth, GPS navigation capability, an integrated audio system, and a backup camera. The menus were intuitive and the touchscreen worked well.

A separate 6-inch TFT display provides the traditional vehicle information in front of the driver, such as speedometer, tachometer, odometer and trip meter, fuel gauge, and gear indicator.

How Does It Compete?

The RanchHawk 650FI positions itself as a value-driven, work-ready, mid-displacement UTV. It unquestionably offers a great deal of content for the money, but it faces hefty competition from established players like Honda, Polaris, and Kawasaki, as well as newer entries to the market from CFMoto and Hisun.

Priced $1,000 less than the CFMoto UForce 600 and the same price as the Polaris Ranger 500, the RanchHawk offers more power, cargo capacity, and features. The UForce 600 directly challenges the RanchHawk by packing electronic power steering and a 3,500 lb winch into a highly competitive package; however, standard amenities on the RanchHawk, such as doors, bumpers, cargo rails, and an audio system, are all optional equipment on the UForce and Ranger.

Hovering near the $11,000 mark, the Hisun Sector 550 offers out-of-the-box accessory packages that include standard roofs, enclosures, or heavy-duty winches. The air-cooled 401 cc Kawasaki Mule SX 4×4 stands out as a compact, budget-conscious workhorse at $8,299. Boasting an ultra-dependable engine and a massive dealer-support network, it lacks the comfort, amenities, and speed of the RanchHawk.

The Honda Pioneer 520 is ever-so-slightly more expensive at $10,199 but offers a narrow-track chassis designed to easily fit on a trailer or pickup truck, in addition to a gear-driven five-speed automatic transmission rather than a CVT. It’s up to each buyer to decide what features and capability they prioritize for the price they’re willing to pay.

Room for Improvement

Piloting 2026 production models, we were assured that the company is constantly evaluating ways to improve its offerings by making its machines more enjoyable to drive and easier to maintain. As such, the 2027 model will likely have substantial updates that address a few shortcomings.

Some small but notable oversights included the lone cupholder being too small to be of use, the parking brake not being very effective, and the seatbelts regularly jamming for all participants in the program. This was compounded by the fact that the vehicle’s safety system won’t allow the vehicle to exceed 5 mph unless the seatbelt is connected. The RanchHawk features both driver- and passenger-side mirrors, but they kept flopping down during our drive over rocky terrain, which rendered them unusable for much of the time. The side-by-side also features 12V, USB, and USB-C ports on the left side of the steering wheel, but all of the storage compartments are located in the center and passenger side of the vehicle. Small gripes with simple fixes.

The future is promising, as we were told that more variants will be on the way and more dealers are being added regularly. In less than four years of operation in the U.S., the company has already established a network of over 200 dealers. A new portal will allow for simpler access to parts for service, and Denago backs the machine with a one-year parts-and-labor warranty.

Final Thoughts

The RanchHawk is a new entry in an established segment, but it makes a strong initial case as a feature-rich utility UTV for buyers looking to get the most out of a firm budget. Its standard electronic power steering, selectable four-wheel drive, locking differentials, high/low range, fully adjustable suspension, winch, cargo bed, towing capability, and infotainment system create a spec sheet that is very compelling for its $9,999 MSRP.

Core components like the chassis, suspension, and drivetrain are rock solid, but improving some small elements, like the seatbelts, charging-port location, and cupholder, can use some tweaking to bring the machine from good to great.

Prospective buyers should evaluate their prospective needs and identify their local Denago dealer’s service capacity and parts availability. For buyers who want maximum standard equipment per dollar and who have dependable local dealer support, the RanchHawk 650FI 4×4 deserves a close look.
